Rare Natural Wood Pendant *Grape Vine* for Joy and Transformation!

This pendant features in a treasury entitled "No. 1 Dad" by NangijalaJewelry here: www.etsy.com/treasury/4ddfe1a375a88eeffaa77eea/n-1-dad

This is a superb pendant made from the wood of a large piece of Grape Vine that was given to me by a friend from the Bordeaux region of France. I only have a very small amount of it and when it's gone I have no way of telling if I'll ever be able to get some more. The colouring is immensely impressive, making this a very striking piece, and the grain patterns are endlessly fascinating. There is a tiny amount of the dark underbark left around the outside to highlight the edge. The piece of wood was quite split and battered, causing an uneven outline as well as most of the visual interest. I think it's a truly beautiful pendant that would be perfect to wear for any celebratory occasion.

These undecorated pendants are popular with anyone who prefers to be a little more discreet about their beliefs and doesn’t always want pentacles all over everything, as they’re suitable for wearing anywhere and in front of anyone. Of course, the properties of the wood are totally unaffected by either having or not having a design on the surface. If you don’t want to wear it then you can carry it in your pocket or just hang it somewhere in your home or car.

It has been finished with a light coat of oil and will come strung on a waxed cotton cord, so it contains no animal products or metal parts.

The Vine is held to be sacred in many cultures throughout the world, but holds a particularly important place in the Greek tradition as being the special plant of Dionysus. It has been used as a symbol of joy and exhilaration, but also of wanton lust and abandon. It is also symbolic of resurrection and transformation, and is useful in magic dealing with these themes. *

Size: About an inch and three quarters long, an inch and a half wide and less than a quarter of an inch thick.
46mm x 39mm x 2-5mm.

This item will come with a list of the magical properties of the wood, a picture and care instructions.

*I do not hold with the theory that the Grape Vine was one of the traditional Celtic Ogham woods. It's true that the both the Saxons and the Norse were familiar with wine, but they didn't make it, they traded for it with more Southern countries. The Britons, Celts and Saxons who made up the ancient population of these islands made and drank large quantities of mead, cider and ale, and probably fermented drinks made from various native fruits such as Elderberries and Rowan Berries... just as many of their decendants do today. Knowing how long ago the Ogham woods were used and roughly when Vines were introduced to the UK, the two don't seem to correlate well enough to be connected and in Ogham sets I prefer to use woods that are genuinely native to the same area as the Ogham. It's not wrong to include Grape Vine as one of the Ogham woods, but it just doesn't make too much sense to me so I don't do it!
