Kimono Patchwork #9 from the Tokonomas Series,
Quilt art collage, approximately 14" long by 9.5" wide (36 x 24 cm).

Great gift item for someone interested in quilt art, bamboo, kimonos, the seasons and asian arts.
Visit my shop for the other pieces in the Tokonomas Series.

Bamboo is often seen as the Chinese symbol for longevity because of its
durability, strength, flexibility and resilience. It strives in the harshest
of elements, still sitting tall, and staying green year-round. Its
flexibility and adaptability are a lesson to us all that the secret of a
long happy life is to go with the flow. The ancient art of Feng Shui
recommends putting bamboo in the front of your home to assure long life for all those who live there.

Finished with a 20" x 16" (51 x 41 cm) white paper mat, 10" x 8" opening (25 x 20 cm).
Mounted on 20" x 16" (51 x 41 cm) acid free mounting board.
Signed & Numbered: Mat signed L. Olszanski on the lower right in pencil with title on the left. Number, date and title on the reverse.
Artwork is packaged in a clear protective acid-free envelope for display until you’re ready to frame it.

Fabrics were stitched to a layered foundation of cotton fabric & quilt
batting. Includes vintage silk kimono and computerized machine embroidery.

Inspirations and Influences.
Many of the textile collages I create are inspired by the Asian art
displayed in Tokonoma alcoves. Tokonomas were the sacred center of a
traditional Japanese home, and reserved for treasured items like scrolls or calligraphy, beautiful kimonos, ikebana flower arrangements, miniature bonsai trees, and fine ceramics for tea ceremonies. The items displayed were changed for special occasions, according to the season, or to create different settings and atmospheres.

While every effort is taken to reproduce colors as accurately as possible,
monitor colors may vary. Copyright: Linda M. Olszanski © 2005-11. All rights
