IGUSA, rush grass, has been discovered, developed and used daily for more than 1800 years in Japan. According to the legend, the very first form of Igusa mats appeared when the emperor of the time had seen the wild rush grass beautifully grown in Kurashiki area. He told his servants to make a mat for him using the plant. He was very impressed by it and even since then, the Kurashiki Igusa mats had been exclusively used by the Japanese nobles for centuries. Our premium Igusa products traditionally manufactured by the traditional artisan in Kurashiki, Japan.

They're beautiful! Arrived just as expected. Pretty easy to clean, as well. A word of caution: avoid putting anything hot directly on the placemat, as it can leave a permanent mark. I once took a plate out of the microwave and put it on my placemat and it left a bit of a ring on the placemat.
