"O, My! O, My!" This is a Cottageware tea set from Keele St. Pottery. It was all handpainted and cast in the shape of rustic English thatched cottages. The handles are like tree bark and branches; there are doors and windows, trees and flowers and vines. These pieces were made in the late 1940's, (the little factory closed during World War II) when people wanted to return to the innocence and calm of traditional rural England. This Staffordshire pottery company and the quaint country buildings it produced, was even studied in a project at the Museum of English Rural Life. These are very usable pieces of art.

Shake out your table cloth and let's have a look. There are 23 pieces: six plates for sweets or sandwiches, six saucers and six teacups, a sugar bowl and a lid, a cream pitcher and the beautiful lidded teapot.

The teapot is 6 1/2" high including the "chimney" or steam vent on top. It is 9 1/2" across from spout to handle.
Creamer is 3" high and 4 3/8" across with handle and spout.
Sugar bowl is 4 1/2" high including lid and 6" across from handle to handle.
Teacups are 3 3/8" across and 2 3/8" high, holding 6 ounces.
Saucers are 5 5/8" across and dishes are 7" across.

The mark on the bottom of all pieces is a circle and "KEELE ST. POTTERY CO. LTD, ENGLAND, Handpainted". The teapot also says "Staffordshire".
The teapot shows some crazing and there is a chip on the tip of the spout and the corner of the lid. All other pieces are as new. They are very clean and ready for a cosy tea party.

THERE ARE ADDITIONAL PICTURES OF THE TEA SET HERE, including pictures of the above mentioned chips: http://tinyurl.com/EnglishTeaSet

All 23 pieces weigh about 10 lbs. We can figure out the shipping cost based on your address, but it looks like it would be about $15 including insurance. PLEASE CONTACT US FOR A MORE ACCURATE SHIPPING QUOTE.
