A lovely old classic, first published in 1902. This edition is 1902, although it does not specify first edition or first printing.

If you are looking for a pristine version, this is not the book for you. However, if you are drawn to all things old, vintage, loved, worn, and with a history you can't find with new, this might be what you are looking for!

The cloth cover, although quite worn, still bears the beautiful rose border around the faded centerpiece bearing the title (some little hands also lightly scribbled around the letters.. probably the same little hands that inscribed the inside "To Mother from Francis, December 25, 1926" ...no doubt a very special Christmas gift!) There are a few other pictures, names, and words written on the first few endpapers, and those are the books that I am always drawn to...the ones that bear markings from previous owners.

The book's pages, themselves, are free of markings, but are yellowed around the edges from age. The pages are all still bound and intact, but at 109 years old, the book should be treated with care (the worst separation occurs by the instription on the front cover/first end paper - refer to closeup photos). The spine has a small circular rip in the cloth, right between the title and the floral graphic. The edges of the book, although quite worn, are in more than adequate condition for a book this old. Although the back cover of the book leads one to believe that this book sustained water damage at some point, there is no "old, musty book smell" that is normally associated with such water damage.

A lovely addition to your home library. Perfect for gentle reading or in a lovely vignette, perhaps paired with some lavender and old lace!
