Item details

Vintage from the 1940s

Length: 1 5/8 Inches; Width: 3/4 Inches

Vintage sterling silver brooch in the shape of a bird (perhaps a quail?) featuring iridescent abalone inlay on the chest and wing. We love the simple design of this piece and are particularly taken with the way the eye of the bird has been done giving him a rather wide-eyed expression.

The back of the brooch is marked Taxco, 925, and with a maker's mark of what appears to be letters DAG. Brooch is also marked with the number 3, which also represents the Taxco region.
Sterling has a significant dappled patina which we have elected not to polish away. Abalone also shows the effects of time with some chipping and one crack. Pin hinge is in good working condition while clasp, though fully functional, is a bit stiff.

Brooch measures approximately 1 5/8" by 3/4" across widest points and weighs in at 3.41 grams.

This seller usually responds within a few hours.

Plain and simple, yes. As most of our items several decades old, and thus have earned the moniker "vintage," they have been used and loved by someone else before coming to us. As a result, many show their age and some wear from use.

We encourage our customers to review each item's description and photographs thoroughly and ask any questions they may have about its condition before purchasing.
