Dimensions

Height: 7 Inches; Width: 3 Inches; Depth: 8 Inches

Although this piece is unmarked, my years of experience say it is a beautiful example of a Japanese made china decor item from the mid 20th century. At one time it most likely had a manufacturer's gummed label attached to its underneath side. As a specimen of its kind it is truly one of the more elaborate and finest finished that I have come across. The maker has used some common elements with a shoe or boot to act as the container for fresh flowers or even a growing plant, and then added 2 very sweet baby cherub angels, applied roses, and even a dove to the outside front of the piece. It is painted with as many as 6 or 8 lovely pastel paint colors and trimmed with gorgeous quantities of metallic gold accenting.

And while the bulk of the embellishment is concentrated on the front of this piece the back is also finished to a much higher degree than most. The boot has an unpolished bisque finish, but the applied figures seem to have a subtle glaze added to them.

The piece is approx 7"h x 8"l x 3"w and is in remarkable beautiful condition. I can find no cracks, chips, or even small nicks to any of its surfaces. It would make a very prized addition to a collection of its genre from the mid century era, or just a beautiful decor item to display with or without occasional fresh flowers, or a potted plant.
