This life size coil built sculpture was inspired by the ancient torsos of Aphrodite found in museums around the world. With those antique artifacts of the body, there is an invitation to the viewer to become a dreamer and complete the work with their imagination. It has been the task of many artists through history to draw from such sculptures, and reinvent the gestures of the arms and heads of such fragments. I myself came to sculpture through tireless drawing of sculptures in museums. It hit me somewhere in Italy: if I'm always so inspired by sculptures to draw, why don't I make my own?

I made this piece to highlight the gesture of body language, and to suggest the motion of the limbs and head, while leaving them to the viewer's imagination. The piece is open to suggest a wind flowing through the body, animating its movement.

It is suitable for indoor or outdoor display, however I would suggest taking it indoors for freezing weather.

The piece is approximately 25 inches tall, by 16 inches wide, by 12 inches deep. I poured a matte tan glazed over most of the figure, leaving a small patch unglazed on the right leg to suggest the flow of rain over the body. The title comes from the goddess who posed for the sculpture, who suggests a graceful celebration with the flow of nature, "when it rains, we dance"
