Item details

Vintage from before 2000

Material

Cotton, Linen

This unique luncheon cloth has 4 secret fan pockets to accommodate napkins, dessert forks, and spoons. How cute is that? The fan applique has been left open on one side like a little pouch. You don't realize that unless there is something in it to give it away.

The workmanship on the linen cloth is amazing. Look closely at the pretty embroidery. The hem has been done with a running stitch all the way around, picking up just one thread at a time.

The turquoise blue embroidery thread combines beautifully with the yellow and gold threads that make up the floral wreath and bow. Black embroidery thread outlines the fan blades on yellow cotton with a tiny forget me knot on each blade, 6 in all. And, green leaves, of course. I think that is all the colors used on the off white linen cloth.

This tablecloth is in very good condition for an older one. There are some odd little pale green stitches inside one of the wreaths. I feel sure it was put there on purpose, but I don't know why. It is almost like a signature and it is very faint. There is an area close to the hem that has tiny little speckles plus two other very small spots that barely show on the off white background.

This linen tablecloth measures 34 by 32 inches and it is card table size.
