Maple box turned from a piece of 'flame' maple. Flame maple, also known as flamed maple, curly maple, ripple maple, fiddleback or tiger stripe, is a feature of maple in which the growth of the wood fibers is distorted in an undulating chatoyant pattern, producing wavy lines known as "flames". This effect is often mistakenly said to be part of the grain of the wood; it is more accurately called "figure", as the distortion is perpendicular to the grain direction.

This piece has simple curves with a bead near the lid. The box was threaded with a specially designed tool that produces accurate threads for a secure closure. The inside of the the lid has some concentric surface ornamentation.

Size: 5 7/16" diameter x 2 1/2" height, volume = 21 cubic inches.

Hand rubbed multiple coat polyurethane finish for a durable yet soft to the touch semi-gloss sheen.
