ABOUT MY BEAVER-CHEWED-STICK PENS:
Handmade pens are a commonplace item these days, but where else can you find a pen that's made by both the hands of a human and the teeth of a beaver?

My beaver-stick pens are made from genuine beaver-chewed sticks, collected from streams and ponds near my home in rural Massachusetts. As you might imagine, finding sticks that are the right combination of a good diameter, straightness, and attractively beaver-chewed isn't easy.

This pen is part of my line of non-mechanical beaver-chewed pens -- that is, pens that don't have a retractible tip. This simplicity allows me to sell these at a remarkably affordable price. Inside these pens is a BiC Cristal(tm) pen refill; 5 inches long and holding enough ink to last most users months or years. Should the ink become depleted, you can replace the refill with one from another BiC Cristal pen (pliers will be required to pull out the empty refill). Alternatively you can send the pen to me and I'll replace the refill for $5.00 (price subject to change).

The wood of these pens is finished with multiple coats of tough polyurethane.

I ship each pen with a "certificate of authenticity" printed on the back of one of my business cards. This describes the materials and making of the pen. If you're giving a beaver-stick pen as a gift, this will make a nice addition to the presentation.

ABOUT THIS PARTICULAR PEN:
This pen is 7-3/4 inches (20 cm) long and about 3/8 inch (1 cm) in diameter. At the top of the pen a beaver has nipped off the end of the stick and some branching twigs have also been bitten off at the point where the stick bends. The beaver has also nibbled the bark off of this stick (tree bark is a favorite food of beavers), leaving behind a few traces of cambium (under-bark). If you look closely you can see faint tooth marks all along the length of the pen. As shown in the photos, the pen comes with an attractive cotton filled gift box.

I don't think you can beat a beaver-stick pen for its utter uniqueness, nor can I imagine a pen with a more endearing story behind it -- the story of one of nature's most charming creatures enjoying a nice meal. Whether for signing important documents or scribbling out a shopping list, a beaver-stick pen is sure to bring joy to whoever uses it.
