Vintage from the 1940s

Material

rayon crepe

I love this dress to bit, and largely because it is something that was altered in the era. There's something really special about the way women in the 40s reinvented their clothes. I noticed from the black brand tag that the body of the dress was dyed black. This dress was originally grey, which I know because the shoulder pads are still present, made of the same material as the body of the dress. I am fairly certain the amazing sleeves were added at the same time. The sleeves are full cut and quite long, so that they have a soft bishop drape when cinched closed with the cased ties. The print features both a solo Mexican guitarist, and a full band. Shocking pink, lime green, bright turquoise, purple, cream and a soft-brown black are printed on gauzy rayon blend. Finally, the skirt is four panels, cut on the bias, that have fantastic drape and movement. The sleeves cinch closed with cased ribbon ties, while the dress closes with a sturdy metal side zipper.

✂-----Measurements

Bust: 37"
Waist: 26"
Hips: 52"
Length: 43"

Label: Dyed over, but I believe it reads "An Elfa Neuman-Peyn Original."
Material: Woven rayon-celanese
Condition: Good Plus, as is

As noted this dress was dyed from its' original grey to back in the era, and as a result the tag is dyed and frayed. The hook at the neck is a replacement. There is some tearing of the fabric of the sleeves right where the ties cinch - there's no hole, as the other side of the casing is present, but years of cinching have worn out the exit points for the ribbon somewhat. The sleeves have mild underarm discoloration. I find no other issues to note - this beauty really wears fantastically!
