Wykes have been judged to be one of the outstanding businesses in the UK's fashion and clothing sector after being awarded the top business accolade - a Queen's Award for Enterprise. This award was given in recognition of their growth in export trade of over 50% in the past three years.

Welcoming the Awards, Minister for Trade Richard Caborn, said: 'The winners are some of the crème de la crème of Britain's businesses. They are the winners in our own 'Oscars for Enterprise'. With their enterprising spirit and dynamism they exemplify the best of UK innovation and creativity'.

Much of our export growth has been due to sales of our yarns for the knitting industry and Wykes are looking to secure and increase this growth in overseas sales with their new range of Bilorex® Invisible yarns. These have been specifically developed for knitwear, but are also suitable for use in seamfree garments and socks, which are potential growth areas both here at home and abroad.

Until now, covered Lycra® always had to be dyed to match garment colours. Now new Bilorex® Invisible eliminates this problem with a technology that makes covered Lycra® virtually invisible when knitted. Bilorex® Invisible is unique, having a fine nylon covering which hides it in the fibres of the main yarn, making colour matching unnecessary. Available in ecru or black, Bilorex® Invisible is suitable for all colours and is available in a range of 3 powers.

Bilorex® Invisible yarns are suitable for plating or feeder blending knitwear on 8 - 21gg flat bed machines and 8gg circular machines.

It is so much finer than standard products, customers can expect to make large cost savings, as only 40% of Bilorex ® Invisible yarn is used in comparison with the standard product. Another benefit is that the finished garment will display little of the content of the relatively low value nylon, which will enhance the natural content and place greater emphasis on the Lycra®.

Bilorex® Invisible is also suitable for use in the manufacture of seamfree garments and socks.

Developed and patented worldwide by Wykes, BILOREX is a high speed process for combining elastane and nylons. The BILOREX production process is as fast and flexible as air intermingling, but the resultant yarn is smoother and more similar in appearance to a textured hollow spindle covered yarn.

The BILOREX process gives greater control and influence over the elastic power of the elastane/spandex, enabling us to develop yarns for a variety of end uses: fine gauge hosiery, socks, Santoni SM8 seamless garments, knitwear and jersey fabrics.

Yarns for a variety of end uses: fine gauge hosiery, socks, Santoni SM8 seamless garments, knitwear and jersey fabrics In knitwear we have developed a range of yarns with different power characteristics, suitable for plating or the manufacture of composite yarns. The very low power of our new BILOREX 7010 yarn, available in an extensive range of colours, makes it ideal for spinning with fine merino wool or making high quality fine gauge knitwear through plating.
Low powered yarns have the advantage of allowing a knitter to use coarser gauge machines to make fine gauge appearance fabrics - for example if 7010 was used to plate a fabric on a 12gg machine it would give an 18gg appearance.
BILOREX 7006 and 7020 are intermediate power yarns. They enable the knitter to make fashionable bouclé‚ fabrics, with a greater fabric yield advantage and softer handle than an equivalent air covered yarn.

In socks BILOREX 7006 plated in the body of a sock gives greater fabric yield advantages as it does not collapse the stitch as much as an equivalent air covered yarn, and in fancy socks the patterns are clearer and flatter.

A new range of BILOREX yarns have been developed to be knitted 100% or plated behind a face yarn in Santoni SM8 seamless garments. Power is a crucial factor in covered yarns for the manufacture of these fabrics, and the BILOREX process can create cost effective yarns across a range of power characteristics, to meet specific customer needs.
The use of a covered yarn is acknowledged as being easier for the production of fine gauge hosiery, but the drive for lower costs can make this difficult in budget priced garments. BILOREX can provide a cost effective solution to upgrading basic lines, which currently use bare Lycra.
