Who doesn't love the look of a sweet, docile manatee, lumbering up from the deep? Now you can have your own pair surfacing on your kitchen or dining room table— and bonus: they have ample room for salt and pepper storage in their hollow body cavities! One of the pair has three strategically placed holes, one in each nostril and one in the mouth, and the other has two in the nostrils. It's up to the owner to decide who is salt and who is pepper. Each manatee has a secure, yet removable, red rubber stopper in their undercarriage to keep their contents neatly housed inside.

This loving pair was formed and shaped by hand, starting with basic pinch pots. Flippers and face details were impressed into the clay with a variety of tools and their bristly muzzles were created using a vintage doily. They were bisque fired, then stained with a black underglaze to accentuate their features, plus three coats of a hand mixed grey underglaze was brushed all over. Finally, the grey areas were coated with a clear gloss glaze. Several layers of different glazes in the color range of earthy green to gold were added to their backs to simulate the algae that is sometimes found on these sea creatures in the wild— this pair ended up with some lovely matte golden spots as well as thin bright blue lines where the glazes interacted with each other as they ran.

Madge and Mickey are a meticulously handcrafted pair that are sure to make anyone smile, whether you love manatees or not. They are a one of a kind set that will bring subtle levity to any home decor. Manatee Lovers Unite!

This set is intended for fine, ground, dry spices only. Hand wash and allow to dry thoroughly and completely before filling. This set was vitrified to cone 6 temperature in an electric kiln.

Madge (the gal with the flippers) measures about 3 inches in girth and is approximately 4.5 inches tall. Mickey has an oval base measuring 2.5 X 3 inches and is 3.5 inches tall.
