this german lithograph depicts an dark grayish blue sky map of the stars of the southern hemisphere with the milky way stretching across the expanse
it comes from a 1903 century german lexikon and measure 9.75 x 11"
a tissue overlay showing the names of the constellation is included with the print
the starry details and constellations are magnificent and difficult to capture in a scan ~ some of the stars are painted in gold with hair-lines drawn to show the connected stars making up the constellations. the milky way is hand painted in a light silver wash
under the map there is a chart displaying the different sizes of the stars
please look at the photos carefully ~
there are traces of glue where the tissue overlay was once attached and some residue of the tissue remains
PLEASE NOTE: this print is a double page 'centerfold' ~ meaning it has a clean crease down the middle from where is was folded inside the book. to some this maybe a distracting nuance. to others it is an unavoidable triviality in the mission to display a more important illustration in a smaller format. ~ [think of a Playboy centerfold]
i add this comment due to numerous debates over the framing potential of a double page creased print. your personal aesthetics should guide you.
a 100% refund including return shipping is available if you find the crease objectionable. but remember it is the centerfold images that are the more important images from the book!
