This tool is sort of a boomerang shaped device that is used to pull the felt down tight during the Crown blocking process.

An old “Puller Downer” is a hard tool to find, and most of the time they are broken, or worn out, or splintering, which makes it difficult to use on the soft surface of an expensive hat body. So, if you would like a new one, I have copied the shape and sizes of vintage ones.

I always inlay a small Abalone Shell dot, and engrave my signature and date on each one.

--------------------------------------------
SIZES:

I offer Puller Downers in four sizes now:
1) Large
2) Medium
3) Small
4) Kid's

The size variance is the diameter of the inside radius. The different sizes will fit different sized Crown Blocks.

--------------------------------------------
MATERIALS:
Normally, I build these in two woods:
1) Light Colored Hardwood (normally either Maple, Birch, Hackberry, or Sycamore)
2) Dark Colored Hardwood (normally Walnut)

Either wood will work and last the same, but this offers an easy and quick visual identification, as many hatters like to have a "Dark" one for dark felts, and a "Light" one for light colored felts.
