Mentholated Chest Rub salve is made with menthol crystals, key to opening up the sinus cavities. It is made with herbs considered soothing to the chest when used as a chest rub. Natural essential oils are of a blend to open the sinuses, too. This salve is an alternative salve for the comfrey salve for pained muscles, as well.

Menthol Chest Rub: herbs & oils used traditionally used for help with cold or flu-like symptoms. I, personally, enjoy it as a chest rub and around my nose during a chest and head cold.

Ingredients: peppermint, wintergreen, cloves, eucalyptus in organic virgin olive oil, jojoba, bees wax, menthol crystals, natural oils of eucalyptus, white camphor, camphor rosemary, lavender

This listing is for a 1/2 oz. twist up tube of mentholated chest rub salve with full disclosure label. The tube is convenient to carry with, travel, or have in your vehicle on a road trip.

Why these ingredients:

Peppermint leaf is an astringent which clears the complexion; a stimulating bath herb, for oily hair shampoos. It eases itching skin conditions and sweaty or sore feet. As a flu reliever, peppermint is a boon for shooing away colds and flu; helps to lower body temperature, refresh the body’s system, and has a mild sedative action which helps to sleep and increase the appetite.

Eucalyptus tea and herb enjoy the reputation of making hair healthy, shiny, eliminating itchy scalp, stimulating blood flow to the hair roots, killing out lice and their eggs through its vapours. It is an antiseptic that works on the respiratory tract, soothing inflammation and clearing the head and sinuses. It relieves congestion of the chest and throat and has the reputation of lowering the temperature. WARNING: It is recommended this herb not be used with those suffering inflammatory disease of the gastrointestinal and bile ducts and severe diseases of the liver.

Wintergreen contains salicylic acid, which is used as anti-microbial. The leaves, with astringent and stimulant properties, contain mineral salts and pain-killing properties.

Cloves treat fungal skin infections. It is a warming spice, an antiseptic disinfectant, and a pain reliever. WARNING: Cloves may be a skin irritant.

Olive oil (I use only organic virgin olive oil – organic because it is just a few dollars more per 35 lb. box, and virgin, because after testing all three grades in castile soap, which uses 100% olive oil to make the soap, the virgin oil produced the most beautiful and effective soap, according to my customers.) is good for mature, inflamed, or dry skin, providing disinfectant, anti-wrinkle, and wound healing properties. It retains moisture to the skin by forming a breathable layer, and like jojoba oil, shea butter, and kukui nut oil, it does not block the skin’s natural functions while performing its own. My aromatherapy book says this oil reduces stretch marks during pregnancy, provides 20% sunscreen, and WATCH as may be a sensitive skin irritant.

Jojoba liquid wax comes from an evergreen desert shrub’s seeds and is an oily substance that is used in many applications to extend the shelf life of other oils. It has vitamins E, C, and B complex and minerals silicon, chromium, copper, zinc, and a high percentage of iodine (almost 81.7%), giving it power to heal...acne, athlete’s foot, cuts, mouth sores, warts, Jojoba liquid wax is said to help with hair loss, removing build up around hair follicles, dry scalp, and dandruff. It also has sulfur, cobalt, and traces of tin. It soothes and helps to remove wrinkles and stretch marks; It acts as a tonic, emollient, moisturizer, lubricant, anti-inflammatory, anti-oxidant, and prolongs the shelf life of all it comes in contact with. It is highly penetrating and closely resembles human sebum.

Bees Wax not only thickens a salve or lip balm, but reduces inflammation, softens skin, and has antioxidant properties; forms a protective network on the skin’s surface and also has a free radical-scavenging ability, i.e., fights harmful pollutants; it is an antiseptic, also. WATCH as may be a sensitive skin irritant.

Menthol crystals have cooling and pain relieving effects. They impart cooling and antimicrobial properties to preparations.

Oil of Eucalyptus is a potent antiviral, antibacterial, and decongestant agent. It treats sinus and throat infection, fever, flu, chicken pox, and herpes. Most liniments and vapor rubs contain it, or its active component eucalyptol. It is specific for thin mucus with lack of thirst and chills. Small amounts or a dilution are appropriate for oily complexion and especially acne. It is an antiseptic on wounds, boils, insect bites, and lice. The scent increases energy, countering physical debility and emotional imbalance. It may benefit arthritis, bronchitis, catarrh, cold sores, colds, coughing, fever, flu, poor circulation, and sinusitis.

Oil of Lavender is said to relieve headaches, muscle pain, insect bites, and other inflammations. It is suitable for all skin types. It is a cell regenerator that prevents scarring and stretch marks. It has a reputation for slowing wrinkles and is used on burns, sun damaged skin, wounds, rashes, and skin infections. The scent relieves nervousness, exhaustion, insomnia, irritability, depression. For centuries, lavender was brought into the birthing room and made into baby pillows. Old texts say it “raises the spirit”. A balancing oil that both relaxes and stimulates.

Oil of White Camphor benefits include helping to reduce pain in your muscles and joints. Aromatherapist Julie Lawless writes in her book, "The Illustrated Encyclopedia of Essential Oils" that camphor oil's properties include working as an anti-inflammatory. Lawless suggests and uses camphor oil for helping to reduce aches and pain.
