Incredibly beautiful, yet also very simple, dress from the Queen of understated glamour, Jean Muir. Using her signature rayon jersey, in a lush Cadbury purple, seamed to fit around the bust, giving that long, lean Thirties look but with a definite Seventies Glam twist - that thigh split up the side! This is a little injured, but I've yet to meet a rayon Muir piece which didn't have some injuries (it's just that kind of fabric) - including a piece which still has its original tags!! And it's still very wearable, but I have taken it into account with the price.

Shown unpinned on my UK8-10 mannequin. There are no fastening so the stretch is to be able to get it on, I'd say the bust was the key measurement as it's most fitted there.

Condition:

Good. Structurally sound and the flaws wouldn't be very noticeable in an evening setting. There are several mends to frays/holes, which are a common problem with this fabric due to the weight and stretch. Most are towards the hem, but there are also some at the top of the thigh split. These have been done in a matching thread so don't stand out. There are some pinkish marks scattered around, purple is a notoriously unstable dye and again this is quite common. Again, worst around the hem but there are some centre front and a very, very subtle paleness under the arms. There are also a few 'picks' here and there, which are just single fibres standing proud of the fabric. I think some of the seams have been resewn, but this is more just because I'm attuned to spotting these things! All the flaws have been taken into account with the price, which would probably be more than double if it was mint condition. I haven't been able to photograph everything but tried to capture the more important things. Sold as vintage.
