A bundle of three beautiful vintage books for girls, dating from the 1890's to the 1930's.

1. 'Grannie's Treasures: And how they helped her', L. E. Tiddeman. Rare 1st Edition, 1894 (no date printed). Published by S.W.Partridge & Co. This book has the most beautiful b&w engravings / etchings throughout (see pictures 3 & 4), extremely delicate and fine work.

Details & condition: On the cover there is a very worn illustration of a girl and boy carrying a laundry basket in black and blue. The cover is blue-grey fabric over boards and the title is printed in red with gold initials. Despite the cover and spine being loose and worn the book holds together well and the pages are in surprisingly good condition, given their age. Front end paper missing, there is a ghost of an inscription that has come through from missing end paper: "To Bill, --?-- --?-- Sunday School, Christmas 1895". 96 pages + 16 page 'Catalogue of New and Popular Works' at the end.

2. 'The House of the Oak', H. A. Hinkson, illustrated by Harold Piffard. A tale of the English Civil War. 1st Edition, 1910 (no date printed). Published by the Society for Promoting Christian Knowledge, London. One colour illustration page, simple b/w chapter headings / flourishes and calligraphic initial letters.

Details & condition: Lovely cover illustration in black and gold of a Cavalier set between two sets of crossed swords, fairly worn title in gold lettering. Decorative gold & black spine. Grey green cloth boards, worn around edges. A child has drawn a few numbers on the back cover in pencil. Front cover loose but still comfortably attached. Pages still securely bound. Some dirty marks on pages and pencil marks / small doodles on some pages. One page ripped. Small ink inscription on title page: "Pamela Penny" & "£8" in corner. 216 pages.

3. 'The Making of Mara', Winifred Norling, 1st Edition, 1938. Published by Ward Lock & Co. This book has some fabulous vintage 30's style b/w illustrations; very 'of the era'.

Details & condition: Oatmeal cloth boards with black titles and illustration of an English girls' school class to the front. Very clean and not at all worn. Slight bumps to the very edges. Spine tight, sturdy and strong. Pages firmly bound. Yellowing to endpapers, foxing to page edges only. No inscription. Very good clean copy in excellent condition. 254 pages.
