This is a Mahogany Obsidian sterling silver ring. Obsidian can be found anywhere volcanic activity has occurred. Some of its most notable sources today include South America, Japan, Mexico, Afghanistan, and parts of the United States. Mahogany Obsidian was probably named that because the reddish brown color is similar to the wood-mahogany. Obsidian is produced when lava cools very quickly. The lava cools so quickly that no crystals can form. Though it comes from various locations, most of our Mahogany Obsidian comes from Mexico. The shank of this ring a 1/2 round sterling silver band cleanly soldered to the backing plate which is made of 24 gauge sterling. There is a flange around the bezel which enhances the sparkle. The bezel is flat sterling wire. This ring size is a number 7-1/2 The stone shows off the pattern of the natural brown polished cabochon. Fantastic!
