June 10th 1957 publication of The Asahi Picture News. Amazing visual insight into life in 1950s Japan.

This Japanese newspaper focuses on photographs, articles in Japanese with brief English captions on each page summarizing each story.

There are also a lot of advertisements which are almost as interesting as the articles with industrial photography and retro house hold appliances.

Measures: 36cm x 25.5
Pages: 38

I have 4 issues of this publication from 1956 and 1957. If you would like more than one, I can offer a discount.

The front page is poster quality (1st photo).

The back page is also poster quality (2nd photo) with fantastic retro Toshiba advertisement.

The newspaper/magazine is full of excellent vintage advertisements and interesting stories.

The most poignant story is the Ibaragi Power Nuclear Plant (3rd pic in listing)

"Atom-For-Peace Era Begins
Operation of a U.S imported waterboiler type reactor began September 18, following an inaugaration ceremony at the Atomic Energy Research Institute at Tokai-Mura, Ibaragi Prefecture. A Shinto priest read prayers and purified the installation and those attending the ceremony. State Minister Matsutaro Shoriki, chairman or Japan's Atomic Energy Commission, threw in the switch which touched off the main reaction ten minutes later."

"Seven Leading Women Chicken Sexers" (4th pic in listing).
I love the portrait photos of these women. It's also great to see that a career in chicken sexing can lead to such national fame!

"Beauty Contest Runners" (5th pic in listing)
Competition between all the cover girls of Asahi Picture News from October '56 to September '57

"Nagoya Air Station Building" a piece covering the airport in Nagoya.

"Home Work Center"
Housewives in Yawata busy sewing and making money at home after a home work center is established helping women find orders from dealers.

A regular feature is "The Cartoon School" with Japanese and English captions showing cartoons from Japan's noted cartoonists.

This is jam packed of images and information. If you have any questions about any of the contents, don't hesitate to ask.
