Rose Window Hat
Materials: wool, hand dyed, crochet, Tapestry Crochet
In April, I like so many watched in horror as Notre Dame burned. I wanted to do something to help, even though I lived half a world away. A medievalist who admires stained glass (including the irreplaceable beauty of the cathedral's famous rose windows), I designed this hat as a tribute. Made from hand-dyed sheep's wool to celebrate the window as an art-inspires-art piece, this hat also gives to the efforts of rebuilding after the fire.
$10 from the sale of each Rose Window Hat will be donated to French Historical Society's Notre Dame Fire Restoration Fund.
Feel good about your purchase: supporting both a contemporary fiber artist and the preservation of a medieval masterpiece.
Three ways to wear the hat!
Beanie (fold up brim)
Use the pictures above as inspiration for shaping and wearing your Rose Window Hat in whatever style fits you best. The ribbed brim is naturally stretchy, and the hat fits most adult/teen sizes. If you like this hat but have a special making request (different color etc.), please send me a message or request a custom order. Happy to chat about ideas! Hand crocheted using an adaptation of tapestry crochet technique.
Care instructions: hand wash with mild soap (like Ivory). Lay flat to dry, do not wring. Wool from our farm's flock of happy sheep is warm and cozy, and the hat should last for many years of enjoyment.
Please note, I will make your hat for you as soon as I can. Large orders may see a delay, but I will be in touch if this is the case.

This was SUCH a joy to make! I have been wanting to try needle felting specific to make a loon so this kit was absolutely perfect!!! The video tutorial is excellent and I love that the kit comes with everything needed. I made this loon pretty big and with the wool I have left, I think I can make 3-4 instead of just two!
We had so much fun with this kit! The video is so easy to follow. I had never needle felted before and found it easy to do by following the video. The care that goes into the kits is amazing. The fact that the sewing needle came PRE-THREADED says it all!!
My mom and I loved making these! I bought two kits, but I think we would have had everything we needed in one kit. The only downside would be if we broke a needle, but the pre-tutorial explained ways to avoid that! Neither of us ended up breaking a needle, and I only slightly poked my finger one time because I decided it was a good idea to look at the video while I was still needling the felt 😂 Both the pre-tutorial intro video and the hen video were great, the kit was perfect, and it’s such a cute project. 5 stars all around, would highly recommend. We both made a mistake when we got to the wings, and then we may have gone rogue with the design after that… I suggest watching the tutorial on a bigger screen if there are two or more people crafting at the same time!
Loved the loon kit! I wanted to give needle felting a try and I thought this design was just so cute. The video tutorial was clear and detailed, and I especially enjoyed the facts about loons that worked their way into the narration. The kit came with a very generous amount of wool roving, so I used the extra to add a couple of chicks to the family!
