Why Zoryana? This name derives from the South and West Slavic word “Zora (Зора)”, meaning “dawn, aurora, daybreak”. In Slavic mythology, the Zorja (the evening stars, the morning star) are the two guardian goddesses, known as the Auroras. They guard and watch over the doomsday hound, Simargl, who is chained to the star Polaris in the constellation Ursa Minor, the "little bear". If the chain ever breaks, the hound will devour the constellation and the universe will end. The Zorja represent the Morning Star and the Evening Star.

This applique art quilt is for the standing figure and selection of flowers that surround her. The background fabric used in the photo was purchased from an etsy merchant. Alternatively, one can use an antique tea towel or hand embroidered heirloom table linens. The sleeve embroidery is optional and it is suggested to use traditional and regional embroidery. The pattern works well as a medallion for a larger quilt or a stand alone art quilt.
