"Saint Michael slays the dragon" depicts the archangel's victory of good over evil, which is emphasized by the contrast between the spread wings of the archangel and the immobilized wing of the dragon.
Archangel Michael is one of the most celebrated of the angels. The name Michael means, "who is like unto God". His feast day of Saint Michael is celebrated on November the 8th.
Saint Michael is often considered to be the field commander of God's Army and he is sometimes referred to as "Archistrategos" which translates to "Supreme Commander of the Heavenly Hosts".
The Orthodox believe the angels to be incorporeal beings, created by God before the actual creation. They are immortal, not by nature but by the grace of God, and are called "second lights," the first light being God Himself. Their nature was originally changeable, but after the Incarnation of Christ, the angels were considered as saved and, therefore, unaltered. The Fathers believed that every believer has his own "guardian angel"- the angels pray for us, sing, and unceasingly glorify the Holy Trinity. They also serve as examples that people should follow.

The icon is painted following the original centuries old technique with tempera paint and gold leaf on a handmade stucco canvas mounted on a wood panel. The icon is sealed with couple of layers to assure a long lasting and well preserved image and to make it easy and safe to clean it from dust.
There is a hole on the back of the icon for easy hanging on a wall.

Measurements: 6" (15,5 cm) by 5"(12cm) and 0.8" thick (2.1cm)
