This recycled zinc pail is authentic French country decor. Part of La Pomme's Reclaimed line, a collection of recycled sewn objects and vintage pieces, this is made from French country flea market finds.

Zinc household items were a French household essential in the 1950s -- now it is almost synonymous to country style decorating. We found this vintage pail at a flea market in Lunel. It has been upcycled with pages and illustrations from a 1937 Nouveau Petit Larrouse Illustré, a French mini encyclopedia.

Pails like this were commonly used for mopping up floors in the 50s. Use it now as a vase. On one side is a page of plant illustrations, on another is the encyclopedia page containing the French definition for plant.

We like how the shape of the pail handle is different from the smooth half-moons of today's models. Aside from vase, this can also be used as a waste basket, or perhaps to hold guest towels in your bathroom

It is 10.5 inchesor 25 cm high (not including the handle), and the top rim has a diameter of 11 inches or 22.5 cm.
