Dewi Sri, Goddess of Rice, Fertility and Abundance.

Burmese or Javanese, Indonesian or Malaysian, I am not sure exactly where this originates from even though this small art piece has been in my possession for over 40 years. Slim and graceful, the goddess Dewi Sri holds ricestalks from a bountiful rice harvest.

If you look closely, you can appreciate the fine carved lines on front and back of figure delineating the collar, patterns on blouse and skirt, the long strands of hair flowing down her back, the unmistakable Indonesian headdress, the toes peeking out from under the fold of her long skirt. Folds of her cloth skirt flare out to the left and right. Small piece but it can be personal and precious. When looking at its profile, it is flat in the back, as that was the extent of the wood's shape.

Weight, approx. 6 ounces.
Height: 9.5 inches (24 cm),
Diameter of base: 2 inches (5 cm).
Solid wood. Warm dark brown.
Excellent condition. No broken pieces, no obvious dings. All Vintage items are sold "as is."

Frequently asked questions about saffronfields

Magazine advertisements printed on paper in the 1900s are now reaching fifty years of age and older. They naturally lose their moisture and tend to tear and bend easily. They usually bear bump marks, staple holes, torn edges, a rough edge where it was attached to the spine of the magazine, creases and wrinkles. Handle with care and protect in an acid free polypropylene sleeve or behind glass. Keep away from sunlight to prevent fading. Ironing with steam will not take out the wrinkles or creases.
Paper advertisements and botanical prints are mailed in archival plastic sleeves. If you would like them sent as gifts, I will cover the sleeves with decorative paper after inserting with cardboard for support, and tie with a simple bow. Then ship in a rigid mailer. If you wish, a simple card will be enclosed with a message you provide. Just let me know what you want in your request.
All advertisement and botanical prints come from books and magazines with the borders, staple holes and rough edges untrimmed. If you wish, you may request that they be trimmed off to size. Just let me know what you need.
Ads from fashion magazines in this shop are 12.25 inches high x 9.5 inches wide; if attached, as in a two page centerfold, dimensions are 12.25 in high x 19 in wide. They are quite thin except for cover pages, which are about 24 lb.

Botanical plates are on quality paper with a sheen; sheet dimensions (untrimmed) are 10-1/2" x 13" (26.6 cm x 33 cm). Some contain artwork that cover the entire page whereas some artwork are encased in a central area measuring 9.5 x 7.75 inches (24 cm x 19.6 cm)--you can identify these as ones with plant names written on the lower half of the page.
If you would like any image duplicated and sold in bulk, please direct your inquiry through email and I will respond. Fees/prices depend on the amount of digital manipulating required to get the final product to a satisfactory state and the duplicating rates charged locally.
