This is a rare and covetable wicker monkey purse made between 1950-1959.

Figural wicker bags from the 1950s are highly sought after by collectors, especially those that are in good condition. Similar figural bags are featured in many permanent collections of major museums' decorative arts and fashion departments.

These wicker pieces often come to unfortunate ends at the hands of overexcited children or as a dog's chew toy. Finding a figural piece with its ears intact is amazing.

This monkey bag is in fabulous condition. We have chosen to leave the original elastic that secures the neck and loops around the button to preserve authenticity. This piece is complete and features the original button closure and black eyes. The quality of craftsmanship is incredible. The face of the monkey possesses so much character, its body and gestures are whimsical and friendly.

This is a wonderful piece that is sure to warm your heart.
