This Edwardian vintage ivory or creamy white embroidered lace wedding veil; circa 1910-1920s is absolutely superb. It has deeply scalloped edge, embroidered floral motifs and overall there is a sprinkling of leaves. All the machine embroidered motifs on the net ground are worked in thick floss (not too silky) and have gimp outlines. It is 3yds 23ins long (3m28cm) with the long panels of richly embellished floral motifs at each end.
In my opinion it is late Edwardian circa 1910-1920's, early 20th century.

It is very elegant and my photographs do not do it justice.Due to location and lighting conditions; it was totally impossible for me to produce colour photos of the full length veil so I had to settle for black and white, and some pictures on a mannequin head. In the mannequin photos I have not pinned the veil it is just held over the hair and fixed with a simple lace band. tied with ribbons at the back I will have more photos in due course showing a slightly different way of fixing the hair with the veil. but I do not intend to pin the veil so that any possible damage is minimised.
Please note I am only too happy to supply more info and photographs.

The whole piece is approx 3yds 23 ins long (3m 28cm) and is 17-1/2 ins 44.4cm wide, (measured across from the deepest part of the scalloped edge). The bottom panels extend upwards for about 20 ins (51cm) on each side .Each large flower motif is approx 5ins high from the base of the stems to the top edge of the petal. On average the scallops along the edge are 5ins long (12.7cm)
To give you an idea of the length against a person I am 5ft 4ins tall;and if the veil is just placed over my head with the ends dropping down they just touch the floor when wearing low heels.Of course if the veil is worn in a style similar to my mannequin there would be some take up of the length but it would still be long.
There is a slight irregularity to the placement of the motifs and the two ends are not quite symmetrical. But this all adds to its uniqueness and special charm.

It is in good vintage condition, clean and fresh with no rips or unravelled embroidery or edges. The entire veil is good and strong, not "ripe" with age--it is 100% wearable! The only very minor issues are small, mainly one cell breaks in the net. They are sprinkled overall and there have been some repairs made to slightly larger ones. None are larger than about 3/8ths ins. When I acquired the piece I was horrified to see what a clumsy job had been made of the repairs and they had been camouflaged with a very thick badly darned in floss to blend in with the leafy motifs. I consequently very carefully and painstakingly unpicked them to discover to my surprise the holes were not too large, none more than about two cells wide and made new repairs in the finest tightly twisted silk I could find. However shown In macro close up they do still look thick.
The main repairs are shown in Photos 3 The only other issue occurs mid way along the length where there is a line of small breaks in the net, shown along the vertically placed tape in Photo 4(top right pic).I think this could have been where the veil was once attached to a headdress. Generally they are not obvious and do not detract and I would say are commensurate with age and use.

This heirloom needle run lace would make a fabulous and unique addition to your vintage gown and headress, especially if it is cream or off white in colour It will certainly attract many compliments and admirers on your special day.
