"Shakespearean Sonnet 73: Gold Leaves" is an original mixed media collage with watercolor. © 2015. Not a print.
The dark silhouettes of late autumn trees are the backdrop for Shakespeare's well known bittersweet masterpiece:

"....Bare ruined choirs where late the sweet birds sang.
In me thou seest the twilight of such day...
"This thou perceiv'st which makes thy love more strong,
To love that well which thou must leave ere long."

Rice and handmade papers (with fragments of real leaves and wood) were collaged with acrylic medium onto heavyweight fine quality Arches watercolor paper. I have hand drawn and painted tree trunks over the textured surface in sepia watercolor and colored pencils. Hand cut swirling yellow leaves. Lastly, the words of the poem were typed out on my vintage typewriter and collaged onto the paper.

SIZE: 15 x 22 (38.1cm x 55.88cm). Unframed and unmatted. Surace sprayed with a UV protective.
