Item details

Leather cord, obsidian carved cabochon, sterling silver tips, Obsidian fish carving, carved stone, scalloped silver wire, 24 gauge plate, black leather bolo cord, tight braided leather, black leather, Coy fish stone, sterling sphere tips, black cord

This bolo is made from a piece of obsidian. I first made a bezel by shaping some scalloped wire around the stone to hold it in place to the backing, I had to chamfer the edge of the stone so that the bezel would hold tightly. I then backed the stone with a solid piece of sterling silver to match the shape of the carved stone. Before the stone was set into the bezel I soldered a spring back to the 24 gauge sterling backing. I ran a leather braided black cord through the spring slide and then attached the bolo tips to the black leather cord on both ends. The tips are sterling silver with small spheres soldered to the end of each one. This bolo feels good to the touch and the silver is highly polished. Worn with a dress suit it will command a sophisticated look. This is a wearable piece of art that will become a family heirloom. The tie when stretched out tightly from top to bottom is about 18 inches long. The cord itself is 36 inches long. The carving is of obsidian stone and four fish swimming in a pond is 2-5/8 inches long and 1-3/4 inches wide.
