There's no place like home to display these thoughtfully crafted, mixed-media Ruby Slippers! I was inspired to make my own "original" pair when a local gallery was having a show entitled "Shoes". My goal was to make them look decades old, rescued and turned into a museum piece that was equally aged to perfection. The wooden case is glassed in on all sides, with a mirror as the back. A delightfully aged index tab reads: ruby slippers, and looks as authentically vintage as the rest of the piece.

I started with an old pair of shoes picked up at the Salvation Army, some satin ribbon in the most perfect shade of red, and about a hundred dollars worth of faux ruby gemstones (those darned things are expensive!). You can see my entire process from naked suede shoes to the Ruby Slippers under glass on my blog... http://tiny.cc/qgszg

The shoes can be displayed with or without the top, or if you're a size 5.5 and adventurous... go ahead and wear them around town. I think I'm going to make myself a pair in pink!

This lovely Ruby Red Slippers display measures 15" wide x 10" deep x 8.5" high.
