This is a beautiful shijira cotton fabric which has been dyed with natural botanical indigo (ai). Japanese shijira cotton has a similar appearance to American seersucker, and is created by twisting the threads before weaving. The surface is lightly textured and often used for summer kimono, or yukata, as it only lightly touches the skin making it breathable and easy to wear during hot and humid weather. The handsome pattern seen here is created by weaving and is similar to a stripe or check.

This fabric measures about 14" wide and is sold by the yard. Botanical indigo ages gracefully and the deep blue color will lightly soften with wear. Please wash before use to avoid bleeding.
