ColorMix Sock utilizes a different dyeing technique, which allows the colors to change more often than all the other ColorMix Yarn lines. This was developed with items such as socks, mitts, and hats in mind so that all the colors in the skein can appear. (Verses only getting 2 or 3 color changes by the time you finish the first sock.) This dyeing process is very time consuming, but I think well worth it!

ColorMix Sock is a 3 ply, heavy fingering weight yarn spun from superwash Merino wool with added nylon for durability. The combination of the tight twist, nylon and the extra ply create a more sturdy yarn especially designed for hard wearing items like socks, gloves, and hats, while keeping its wonderful next-to-the-skin softness.


NOTE: The last photo shows two socks I knit from colorways "Summer Picnic" and "Tropical Rainforest", both with a contrasting heel. This is to show you how these yarns work up only and are not included in this listing.

One skein is enough for a calf-length pair of adult L socks. For longer socks, I suggest using a sock mini for the toe, heel, and cuff.

Yarn Hero's ColorMix line is a unique dyed in the wool yarn that works up into long gradients and/or stripes of color. Just as the name implies, ColorMix yarns use optical blending within the strand to create unlimited color blends. Unlike hand-painted yarn, the color changes will work up into long bands of color, instead of short repeats. Colors will shift, marl, stripe, and shift back again. Each skein is a one-of-a-kind, even when from the same dye lot. No need to alternate skeins when working with multiple skeins on a large project!

A note about the milling process:

All ColorMix yarns are milled in a small, family-run US mini mill. This means that the yarns are created by hand in small batches on simple cottage industry equipment. Due to this, there will be small variances in the thickness of the yarn throughout the skein, as well as the occasional slub or join where the spinning machine "burped" while in the middle of the run. :)
