HI Everyone.
I saw these old seed planters from around 1880 recently and immediately thought how cool it would be to upcycle these seed planters into hanging outdoor flower planters. These are totally farm shabby chic. Rusty metal and weathered wood, some original paint remains making these planters excellent accent pieces for your outdoor living space.

These were originally seed planters for farming. Basically, the farmer would press the wedge shaped base into the soil and rock the tool forward onto the lever which sticks out the front. This would open the wedge shape in the ground and release a seed. Upon release, the rotary mechanism inside the can would rotate and drop a new seed into the wedge, readying it for planting in the spot 18 inches down the corn row. Pretty awesome technology for 1880 or earlier. I should mention that both planters mechanism's move and rotate. That was a surprise.

The planters Measure about 31 inches tall. They stick out away from the wall about 11 inches at the lower lever. I used wire to make them hang for the photos. I've since replaced the new wire with rusty old wire to make it a lot more period looking.
