Heart Necklace: Inlaid pink Paua shell with 'silver look' 18" (45.7cm) hypo-allergenic trace chain with secure lobster clasp fastening.

The colour of the pink paua shell has iridescent patterns and changes colour slightly to a red-pink as it catches the light. Each piece of jewellery is unique.

Paua shell is often referred to as the 'Sea Opal' due to its striking reds, blues, green and fiery flashes and the iridescent patterns that change as they catch the light. It is the most sought-after amongst the varieties of Abalone, making each piece of jewellery unique.

Ancient Maori people named Paua shell as "The gift of the God of the sea". Accordingly to Maori practice, giving beautiful Paua shell is considered extremely lucky and is believed to bring sensitivity, harmony, prosperity, and peace to the wearer. Paua shells were used to treat ailments and health conditions including, deficiency of calcium, hearing problems and nervous system disorders. Many traditional and contemporary crafts of New Zealand use these shell and Paua shell has always been an indispensable part of jewellery making.

• The Paua shell is sustainably sourced as a by-product from the Farmed Fishing Industry of New Zealand and is never dredged or free fished.
• All metal plating is based upon a Rhodium amalgam which is both hard wearing and hypoallergenic
• The base metal for pendants and earrings is Zinc
• The base metal for the fishhooks is Brass
• The metal used for the earring posts is Stainless Steel.
• All of our chains are made from Brass
• All our products are nickel, cadmium and lead compliant.

The chain is finished in a high quality plate (Rhodium plating), meaning its not only hard wearing and will resist scratches and tarnish but also nickel, cadmium and lead compliant (tested against European Regulations). The plated, or stainless-steel components, are hypo-allergenic.
