About Our Boards:
Our unique cutting boards, trays and servers are made from Texas Mesquite wood that has been salvaged and repurposed. You can not find Texas Mesquite wood with its natural edges in lumber yards and it is a very rare and expensive hardwood. Because we salvage the wood and mill it locally, we can pass the savings on to our customers so that you can own a unique piece of mesquite wood art that no one else will ever have! The wood used is hand selected by ourselves for its fascinating design, grain, texture and beauty. The shapes are determined by the natural curvature and distinct pattern in the grain of the wood; therefore each piece is one of a kind. Due to the nature of mesquite wood; it sometimes has cracks which we may need to fill, however these cracks add to the wood's unique natural character and beauty so we try to preserve them as much as possible. All boards are hand rubbed with several coats of food safe mineral oil.
We also offer our items customized with a hand engraved design of your choice (see photo 5 as an example and our engraving costs typically between $20-$35). The hand engraving is filled with a black or turquoise epoxy that looks beautiful amongst the dark grain in the wood.
What is Mesquite Wood?
Mesquite, sometimes called Texas Ironwood, is a dense hardwood with dimensional stability. It has special characteristics with remarkable swirling grain of rich red orange colors mixed with black. It grows and regenerates quickly, so is a highly sustainable material. Due to its crooked shape and short stature, it was once thought of as only good for firewood and barbecues; however artists and craftsmen have turned Mesquite wood into a valued material.
