Item details

Vintage from the 1970s

Beautiful early Seventies dress by the great Janice Wainwright in her (in my humble opinion) best period, represented by the 'Forty Seven Poland Street' label. Made from that heavy jersey so beloved of Jean Muir, this is relatively restrained for her and certainly her most 'Muir-esque' look. The dress is simply adorned with applied pailettes in a diamond panel at the front, and then trimmed with a silver edging around the waistline and neckline.

Please note there is some stretch to the fabric but I would guess it would best fit somewhere in between the measurements given.

Bust 34-37" - Waist 26-28" - Hips 36-39" - Length 59"

Rayon jersey

Excellent. There is what looks like a faded patch right in the centre of the bust, but from what I can tell, it isn't actually faded - it's more like a stretching because of where it sits (the fabric is heavy, and the way it's seamed means that this is obviously a high tension area). Hard to explain, and I don't think is so obvious when worn (my bright lights show it up more!). There are a few holes near the hem on either side of a seam, which again I think must be from strain. Sold as vintage.
