Own a gorgeous piece of history with this Underwood Standard typewriter. I did some research trying to determine the age of this model, and according to this source - http://reviews.ebay.com/How-old-is-my-typewriter_W0QQugidZ10000000005648053 - Models with this serial number (in the 1160000 series) date from 1919-1929. This typewriter is stamped with serial # 116188416
The typewriter is in excellent vintage condition considering its age - All of the keys are still in tact and the numbers/letters are still clear and look great. The Underwood brand at the top/front of the typewriter (where you load paper) is somewhat faded, but still readable. The back and sides are also very clean and in great condition. A few of the screws on the face and a couple of other small areas of metal have a little rust, but very minor and could be easily cleaned/removed.
All the knobs, buttons, and other gizmos seem to be working, and the keys seem to be functional, maybe a little sticky. The ribbon on the interior is dried out, but obviously you'd need to replace the ribbon in a typewriter of this age :) The link above I believe is from a seller on eBay who sells ribbon for vintage typewriters.
The interior is a little dusty/dirty and should be taken to a typewriter expert to be cleaned and tuned-up if you are planning on using it beyond display.
NOTE: I am not a typewriter expert so I do a surface clean, but do not go into the interior of the machine. Since it is a machine, I do not want to alter or affect any of the inner workings of the typewriter. Also, all the typewriters we sell are AS-IS, which means they cannot be returned or exchanged once purchased, and we are not responsible for any repairs, etc. that need to be done after sale. We closely inspect each typewriter and try to give as detailed and accurate a report as possible within our knowledge. Please contact us with any questions you might have before purchasing this piece.
