The name comes from the greek word amphoreus, a compound word combining amphi- ("on both sides", "twain") plus phoreus ("carrier"), referring to the vessel's two carrying handles on opposite sides.
These vessels were being used by the ancient Greeks and Romans as the principal means for transporting and storing grapes, olive oil, wine, oil, olives, grain, fish, and other commodities.
16th to 2nd century BC.

Height : 4.67" / 11.85cm ( 6.10" / 15.39cm with tripod base ) approx.
Width : 2.37" / 60mm approx.
Weight: 365gr approx.

As this item is hand made, measurements, surface texture and verdigris patina may vary slightly.
