This doll is entirely handcrafted with a typical cotton handkerchief. The history behind these dolls is varied. Church dolls were made for little ones to have something to play with during church that wouldn't make any noise if they were dropped. Some church dolls were known to have something sweet in the head so as to give the small children something to suck on during church. Handkerchief dolls were made with supplies on hand when items were scarce. Civil War dolls were made from handkerchiefs of loved ones- fathers, husbands, etc. as a reminder of the loved one. Prayer Dolls were named because their hands look as if they are praying.

Hanky baby is made with cotton handkerchief, satin ribbon, laces, and ribbon roses.

This doll has a small signature of a brown D on the lower right corner.
