To experience one of the stage designs by acclaimed British artist David Hockney's for the iconic 1850 Richard Wagner opera Tristan und Isolde, visualize yourself on a ship as you gaze into the intriguing image on this poster which was created for a 1992-93 Japanese touring Art Exhibit featuring Hockney's set designs.

David Hockney is a visionary whose widely-celebrated work has made him one of the most influential British artists of the twentieth century. In addition to being a founder of the Pop Art movement, he is also a legendary stage and costume designer, having transformed his ideas for many operas into awe-inspiring sets with magnificent lighting since the 1960s. The intriguing image in the poster is an acrylic on canvas model of the ship Hockney designed for Act I of Richard Wagner's opera which tells the tale of the passionate but doomed love of Tristan and Isolde, an adulterous couple.

I'm in the process of listing fine quality prints of artwork by other artists, including Hockney. The Hockney prints will look phenomenal framed and as part of a grouping with similarly colored, sized or themed prints. Here are all the artwork prints I have listed so far... www.etsy.com/shop/AngelGrace?section_id=8092048.

This print is from a high quality book of art posters that was printed in Italy. You will receive the actual page from the book, not a copy of the page and not the original poster or painting. There is only one image on the page, and the reverse is blank so there won't be any bleed through.

This print is smaller than the original poster.
Entire page, including white margins, measures... 14.125" x approx. 10.25"
Featured art image only measures...9.125" X 12.875".

Condition ...
This print is in excellent condition, possibly with very light tanning on the three outside edges. The edges can easily be hidden when framed by using a mat or possibly with a frame alone. **Please note: If the images looks skewed or the outside border looks uneven, it's only because I wasn't holding my camera perfectly straight and/or the image was not perfectly flat.

About the Artist ...
World-renowned artist David Hockney was born in Bradford, Yorkshire in 1937. He knew he wanted to be an artist by the time he was ten and subsequently studied at Bradford College of Art and the Royal College of Art in London where he received a Gold Medal upon graduating in 1962.

Throughout the 1960’s, Hockney's art career grew exponentially. Absorbed in his work, he forged new ideas about seeing the world by intensely exploring a variety of forms. Working in almost every medium (painting, drawing, stage design, photography, and printmaking), he stretched the boundaries of all of them...from new ways of representing perspective and his use of brilliant colors, to his vivid multi-dimensional photo collages and fax art, computer printings and colored laser prints. By constantly questioning, seeking, and taking nothing for granted, he has opened new horizons on how we perceive the world and how art can alter our vision.

As an important contributor to the Pop Art movement of the 1960s, Hockney is considered one of the most influential British artists of the twentieth century. Best-known for his 1960s series featuring Los Angeles swimming pools and their denizens, Hockney paints his pop culture subject matter in a bright and deliberately naive style of drawing. In his first mature works of the 1950s, Hockney painted narratives, often unabashedly featuring gay themes, in an expressionistic almost childlike manner. Moving to California inspired him to produce the simplified archaic forms in bright California colors for which he is now best known. Now based in Yorkshire & London, England, the world's most prestigious galleries continue to celebrate his extraordinary work through solo exhibits each year.
