Four delicious bookmarks featuring fashions of the late 1840's, are set off with quotes written by Charlotte Bronte, the most famous of the three doomed Bronte sisters and author of 'Jane Eyre.'

The illustrations used in these bookmarks are taken from the pages of ladies fashion magazines and instructive books of the 19th century with romantic names such as Le Follet and Modes de Paris. Perhaps Jane Eyre or Lucy Snowe turned the pages of one such periodical.

The quotes on the bookmarks are lovely and instructive, written with a true sense of the human condition.

"Who has words at the right moment?" (who indeed?)

"We must change, for the eye is tired of the picture so oft recurring."

And for those budding writers out there, here is some advice from Charlotte Bronte that stands the test of time:

"Sacrifice without pity, everything that does not contribute to clarity."

And finally, from one of my favorite books and certainly the greatest Gothic novel with a bold voice declaring early on the rights of women as fully functioning individuals, a quote from Jane Eyre:

"I am no bird and no net ensnares me"

These book marks would make great party favors for your book club or nice bride's maid gifts. Please inquire about special orders.

The bookmarks are printed on heavy 80lb card stock and reinforced with an extra layer of cardstock which makes them feel thick and durable. All images are from my private collection and the backgrounds are all designed by me.
