This elegant set of knives have what is known as pistol handles. Originally they were called this as they resembled flintlock pistols. The blades are also known as pistol shape and were usually only to be found on pistol handles.

This set was made in 1915 by Martin Hall & Co.Ld. Sheffield, England. The handles are fully hallmarked on both sides and guarantee they are .925 sterling silver.

Stainless steel was not invented for use on cutlery until after WW1, so the blades on these knives are manufactured from carbon steel. As these knives were intended solely for spreading butter, they do not come into contact with food moisture which would stain them. After use they should to be hand washed and dried at once to prevent discoloration.
Although these knives are 96 years old, their condition shows they have been used, but very well cared for.
The knives are 6 ¼” long and still in their original fitted case.

This item comes from a smoke and pet free home.
