This listing is for an eighth grade reading textbook written by J.W. Searson and George E. Martin, copyright 1910 (published by The University Publishing Company). Cloth-covered hardcover, 404 pages, about 7 1/2" x 5".

This is a wonderful volume that uses poetry to explore the English language. From the preface, "It is the purpose of this volume to afford intelligent appreciation of some of the inspiring short poems of the language...Each study consists of an introduction, the selection, suggestive questions for study, and a list of references to other helpful selections." It includes over 100 written selections from every major poet and writer of the time, including (but not limited to) Edgar Allen Poe, Robert Louis Stevenson, Alfred Tennyson, William Shakespeare, Ralph Waldo Emerson, William Wordsworth, and many, many more. As mentioned above, each section includes a set of exercises and suggestions for further reading. Index of authors included. Some random illustrations throughout.

This book has the owner's name and date written in pencil on the front endsheet and occasional small pencil notes within the pages. This item shows typical vintage wear, but has no tears and is in very good shape.

Whether for display or dissection for altered art or crafts, this book is a gem. Enjoy!
