PIGEON FORGE POTTERY (Set of 6) COASTERS with ORIGINAL BOX - #1565 - Six lovely 3" pottery coasters with ORIGINAL BOX! Each coaster is glazed with a color in the antique gold to mustard yellow range. The impressed motifs include 3-swan, 2-cow, 1- acorns with leaf, bringing the total to six. Each was lightly impressed on the bottom with the Pigeon Forge Pottery logo during production while the clay was still wet. The 'acorn' coaster displays what feels and looks like a glaze bubble pop (done during production) leaving a tiny bit of roughness (images 5 and 10). The bottom rims were made without glaze and have picked up residue from sitting on a dusty table or shelf through the years. The original box is in good vintage condition except for one torn corner. Inside and out, expect to find some light soil and slight aging to the color of the paper and cardboard. The 6 coasters alone are collectible Pigeon Forge Pottery items. The presence of the original box maximizes the DESIRABILITY of this six-coaster set! MORE below.

About PIGEON FORGE POTTERY: Signature black bear figures and hand-painted dogwood items (as well as many other items made through the years at the pottery) appear to have traveled far and wide with folks returning home from vacations in the Great Smoky Mountains of TN. Owls, raccoons, birds, field mice, chipmunk and frogs are also found among the woodland shapes captured in clay by the potters at Pigeon Forge. Square tiles with quilt block designs, round tiles with woodland designs, and coasters with woodland and folk art designs seem to have been made less frequently than many of the previously mentioned items. Production ceased in 2000, following the death of owner-founder, Douglas Ferguson, and Pigeon Forge Pottery has become highly sought-after by collectors. Ferguson, in his later years, was internationally known for his development and application of beautiful glazes.
