Erwin Pottery CRAB APPLE Demitasse Creamer by NEGATHA PETERSON/ERWIN POTTERY - #1091 - We purchased this lovely demitasse cream pitcher in the Blue Ridge CRAB APPLE pattern directly from Negatha Peterson in the mid-1990’s at her Erwin Pottery studio in Erwin, TN. The pitcher stands about 3" from tabletop to top rim of pitcher lip. We find it to be free of chips, cracks, crazing. Clean and bright inside and out, it is an exceptionally lovely vintage BLUE RIDGE shape demi creamer showing no sign of use, looking like it recently came from the kiln! Ignore the glare in our image. The painting of the design is vivid and complete throughout. The pitcher displays the Erwin Pottery logo (image four) along with Mrs. Peterson’s handwritten initials, NP, as seen in image two. Both marks are under glaze and original to production. According to Mrs. Peterson, she purchased the mold used to produce this creamer from Southern Potteries (makers of Blue Ridge) after SPI closed its doors in the mid-1950's. VERY difficult to find and would go beautifully with the BLUE RIDGE demi sugar bowl seen in our last image, not included with this demi creamer, but found in another listing. Negatha Peterson was an outstanding artist and long-time employee of Southern Potteries, Inc. After SPI closed its doors in the mid-1950’s, she purchased some original SPI molds and opened Erwin Pottery. Later, Mrs. Peterson obtained and used Cash Family Pottery molds. The apple pattern seen here is Mrs. Peterson’s version of the Blue Ridge Crab Apple design. It mixes extremely well with the original SPI Crab Apple and Cherry Bounce patterns. The initials NP under glaze is a guarantee that an item was produced before Mrs. Peterson retired and sold Erwin Pottery to new owners. Erwin Pottery items are becoming more and more popular with Blue Ridge and Cash Family Pottery collectors!
