Hand forged woodworking holdfast with a very basic forged end as opposed to my other leaf style holdfasts. Sized for perfect function in either a 3/4" hole or a 1". These work best in a bench from 3" - 4" thick but have been used in many benches both thicker and thinner. If your bench is over 4" thick please let me know and I will chose just the right holdfast. these are often used in pairs.
11/16" diameter for the 3/4" version
15/16" diameter for the 1" version

(provides 5" of clamping in a 4" bench top)
These are unfinished for the best hold. The use of oil, wax or other friction reducing finishes will reduce their holding power.

I am so happy with the custom holdfast from Black Bear Forge. I use the Sjobergs Elite 2000 workbench WITH cabinet underneath. Because of the cabinet, (and also because the workbench uses 1" diameter dog holes which seems less common these days), I needed a pretty custom length holdfast. I gave John the necessary dimensions and the holdfast works WONDERFULLY. I'm so excited to have it and I already ordered a second one.

I love these holdfasts!!! They shipped on time and I mentioned that my bench is 5" thick so John made them to work on a top that thick. They work perfectly. Thanks A Lot. Ron.

Very happy with these. Bought two and they work great on my 5" thick bench in 3/4" dog holes. Two taps with a hammer to set and one to release . Steel has the perfect amount of spring to it. Well worth the money. Would highly recommend.

Oh man these are nice! I ordered some cast iron holdfast from Grizzly and they don't really work well at all. Then I ordered a couple forged holdfasts from a different blacksmith (because they were cheaper-shame on me) and they were and even bigger fail. I was beginning to think I was just daft... Then I decided to order a couple of BlackBearForge's holdfasts. OMG! This is how a holdfast should work! Without fail they grip tight and do not release until you tap that back. Superior in every way!
