This wonderful medal depicts a woman with a pitcher and a cup. I've decided she's a milkmaid. The medal has the words 'Exposition De Gand 1913", which I believe was a World's Fair in Ghant, Belgium in 1913.

In keeping with the folktale of The Mermaid and Her Pail, this medal dangles from part of a beautiful vintage rhinestone earring and a Haskell style faux pearl. These represent wealth, ie: diamonds and pearls. Swaying next to the medal is the sweetest miniature vintage bisque pitcher.

One of a Kind

This charm necklace will grace your neck at 26 in ( 66.04 cm )with a 4.5 in ( 11.43 cm ) drop. Closes with a vintage fold over clasp. I believe the medal is aluminum.

The chain can be shortened on this, just let me know!

The Milkmaid and Her Pail is a folktale of Aarne-Thompson-Uther type 1430 about interrupted daydreams of wealth and fame. Ancient tales of this type exist in the East but Western variants are not found before the Middle Ages. It was only in the 19th century that the story about the daydreaming milkmaid began to be attributed to Aesop.
