Raven
Hand-Painted Cast Paper Original
Among the Irish Celts, the raven was associated with the Goddess, the Morrigan, who took the shape of a raven over battlefields while acting as “Chooser of the Slain” and the protector of warriors. In Norse culture, the god Odin had two ravens named Huginn and Muninn who flew around the world bringing back information to their master. Therefore, one of Odin's many names was the "raven god".

The frame dimensions are 12" x 12" and 1" deep.

Paper Casting
Paper casting is to me the perfect medium. It allows me to use almost every skill set. A typical piece begins as a drawing or two. Then I sculpt it in wax. This is a long refining process and often the image sculpted is far different from the drawing. Then I build a dam around the wax and pour a rubber mold directly off the surface. A casting is made by pressing wet cotton pulp into the mold and extracting the water. Then I finish the surface.
While every piece that emerges from the mold is about the same, no two are really painted the same. Maybe I would if I could, but the painting process is always in flux. I am always experimenting with ways of mixing colors or washes and hard edges or new pigments. I send about 75% of my time with the painted finishes.

Apologies for the late review Kevin -- this was beautiful as I knew it would be! I've been wanting to get a cast paper piece from you at the Dublin Irish Festival for years and years and am glad I finally got to get one for my house. This is one of the most beautiful and unique pieces of art I've ever seen! I also have to compliment you on your packaging -- this was so well packed that I'm sure it could've survived a hurricane! And it came very quickly! I ended up getting a custom cherry frame for it and it really pops! It's one of the main features in my house next to some old books and fossils, etc. on the fireplace mantle. I'm so very pleased, and I can't thank you enough for the work that you do. I appreciate it very much! Take care!

Wow!!! The item I ordered was spot on how it looks on the sellers page. It in fact is even more vibrant and so neatly done we were all amazed when we opened the package! It was a gift for my husbands birthday and I didn’t see it in person until he opened it because it was so perfectly packed. The quality, detail, and artistry behind this art piece is absolutely stunning.it even brought a tear to my husbands eye. We will cherish this piece for many years to come! Thank you so very much!

If I could rate this 10 stars I would! The customer service, communication & shipping were amazing. Kevin went above & beyond to get this to me quickly. The real treasure is the tapestry itself… it is beautiful beyond anything I imagined! The workmanship and quality are a real masterpiece! I would buy anything from Castpaper in a heartbeat. He even included a surprise Greenman print. Thank you Kevin for a delightful experience!
