Made this pouch to carry fire starting needs. The pouch is hand sewn golden thick and sturdy elk hide given a oil/ stain finish to looked used and abused. A shell fragment tied with cobalt and hunter green glass tile beads decorate the flap. .
The pouch has been given a strong braided neck thong and inside are the goodies. There's a 2" burning lens which can double as a magnifying reader glass. This has it's own thick protective pouch which is attached to the inside of the bag with a thong to prevent loss.
Next there's a tinder tube to catch the spark made by the burning glass. And last there's a 3" ferrocerium (fire steel) rod fitted into a antler tine handle if you need to make fire when the sun's not out or after dark. The rod has a protective coating and will have to be scraped a little to produce sparks for the first time. These make a shower of good sparks even in damp weather.
Easy to start fire either way with the tinder tube. We will send written instructions with the kit and some refill tinder string for the tube. This method is much easier than flint and a striker.
Pouch measures 6" x 4 1/4" wide.
